Two air-ambulance helicopters; one from Granada and the other from Málaga, attended a road accident near Loja on the road to Montefrío: a car had plunged down the side of a 10-metre-deep barranco.

The two occupants were a grandmother and her granddaughter. The granddaughter died in the Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos in the Hospital de Neurotraumatología del Virgen de las Nieves. The grandmother continues in the ICU in a critical state.

Fire personnel from the area, fire station in Loja had the task of cutting the victims out of the wreckage so that they could be medevacked.
