The crater that was left after the El Día supermarket was demolished seemed to linger in inactivity for months but suddenly concrete structures are sprouting out of it.
Floors, walls, pillars are being raised, placed and attached to each other as if it were one of those children’s books that when opened, structures unfold and take form.
In reality, workers beaver away everyday to complete this new supermarket between Calle Virgen del Carmen and Calle Larache.
After all, concrete for foundations always takes a long time to pour and solidify but once they are complete, the rest is prefabricated sections. If things go according to plan, it should have its doors open to the public by October.
Things have come a long way since paper shuffling kicked off the project in April. The developer, ALDI Dos Hermanas Supermercados, reached an accord with the owner of the plot, who, by the way, also owns the land on which the bus station and Lidl sit and a good chunk of the P-4 in general.
The end result will be that Almuñécar will have the second ALDI supermarket on the Costa Tropical and the fifth within the province of Granada.
