Parents with young children using Salobreña beaches enjoy not only the sun and the water but also ID bracelets for their kiddies in case they wander off.
This service, which has been available for some years now, is provided by Ferretería Neptuno. Last year they convinced the Unión Cerrajeros Andaluces de Seguridad (Andalusian Locksmiths Safety Union), to join in and provide this services for other towns in Andalucía.
Consequently, there are 5,000 free, ID bracelets available this year in Salobreña for any parent who wishes to obtain one for their child. They are available both in the hardware shops itself on Avenida del Mediterráneo and at the Lifeguard posts on the beaches.
How does it work? When you pick up the bracelet, you write down the name of your child and a telephone number (a mobile) on the bracelet, which are self-adhesive and waterproof so getting them wet is not as problem.
One of the brothers that runs Ferretería Neptuno, Silverio Jiménez Molina, explained that each year it has been a success, hence it being on offer this year, in collaboration with the Town Hall. In previous years there have been cases were children wandered off, got lost, and were taken to the lifeguard post by other beach users, resulting in their prompt return to their worried parents.
