The chief opposition party, the CA, has criticised the fact that the Altillo underground car park is closed to all but residents with a reserved parking space.

It’s been this way for a couple of weeks, owing to sewage appearing on one of the levels, which is a major blow because it is a main beach-front-parking facility, so with the influx of summer visitors things couldn’t be worse.

According to the CA, it is the business owners in the centre of town; i.e., Placeta de la Rosa, Calle Baja del Mar, Calle Real and the Plaza de la institucion, who are most upset over this because people who visit this pedestrian area of Almuñécar depend on this car park.

Obviously, it’s a blow for beach goers, too, especially for those using Playa Puerta del Mar, as well as people using the lower paseo bars & cafeterias.

But the sewage in the underground car park is not the only ‘stink’ around town as the sewage pumping station next to Las Góndolas has been emitting a stench of sewage for months so, again, with summer flat occupation up, it can only get worse.

Finally, the square under the Peñon (rock with the cross) is still fenced off and in the throes of seemingly eternal building works, meaning that people who normally park there have lost out, as well.
