A man got into trouble after falling down a slop whilst looking for his dog. He was finally rescued thanks to it leading family members to way he lay.
It was around 17.00h on the 8th of this month near El Limonar (Málaga) when a 78-year-old, retired doctor was out with his dogs. Suddenly a cat run out and one of his mutts ran off.
The hound disappeared down a steep bank and its owner gingerly descended after him. However getting down was one thing and getting back up was quite another.
Despite his repeated efforts to scramble up the slope he kept slipping back down again until he gave up but not before losing his glasses and mobile phone. If things weren’t bad enough, the temperature was 37ºC at the time.
Luckily the errant dog, with his excellent 4×4 capacity, had no trouble returning home, along with his other canine companion.
In the meantime, his wife was in Málaga and did not return to later in the evening. She saw the gate open and thought that he must be out walking the dogs (rather than mountain climbing) so exhausted by her day out she stretched out on the sofa and soon dropped off to sleep.
When she did awake it was just after one in the morning and seeing that he wasn’t back began to panic and called her daughter. When she arrived the dogs ran to greet her and then made gestures for her to follow them, which she did, and they led her to where the retired doctor was finding him about two o’clock.
He was exhausted, very sleepy and bleeding so she phoned the municipal police who turned up accompanied by fire personnel who finally hooked him out and got him home.
