A plainclothes policeman in Barcelona was beaten up by foreign tourists, who thought that he was a thief.

The incident took place in broad daylight on Tuesday in the Barrio de Barceloneta, in the Plaza del Mar. The two tourists were later arrested in their hotel.

The policeman had located a thief and was wrestling with him on the ground when the two tourists, (believing that the policeman was a thief)  started kicking him on the ground, allowing the real thief to escape.

Two of the kicks were aimed at the victim’s head, causing him to momentarily lose conscious. If that weren’t bad enough, the thief had also laid into him before running off.

The policeman tried to tell the tourists who he was but they didn’t understand him. He has since been released from hospital but remains off sick.

Editorial comment: above all, what you come away with from the video was what cowardly buggers the two tourists were, especially, the second one that comes in from the bottom of the video, launches a kick against a man on the ground who cannot defend himself, and then scuttles back to a safe distance. You can hear the policeman shouting in Spanish, “I’m a policeman, you dickhead (soy policía, gilipollas)!”
