The Provincial Council is going to share out 900,000 euros between a number of municipalities so that they can clean up the mess left by the calima.
The money received will be used to hire outside help (i.e., non-public employees) to eliminate this kind of dust from public buildings, open-air spaces and street furnishings.
To clarify that further, workers must be hired externally, (private companies) and town halls are not allowed to use the money for financing overtime for municipal maintenance workers.
In order to qualify for these funds (5,000 euros) the municipalities must have fewer than 50,000 inhabitants
Furthermore, municipalities of 20,000 or more, the money can only be used in municipal dependencies (satellite urban areas; i.e., as La Guardia is to Salobreña).
The work has to be carried out up to and including the 31st of July.
The Chairman of the Provincial Council, José Entrena, visited some of the villages that came off badly tainted by the muddy rain and stated that cleaning up the buildings is very important; i.e., white facades as a tourist attraction.
