A young woman was struck by falling masonry after parts of a 3rd-floor balcony fell on top of her as she was standing on the street below.
The condition of the 25-year-old victim, who is in the intensive care unit, is described as very serious owing to severe head injuries.
The emergency-call centre, 112, started to receive phone-ins just before nine on Tuesday evening, reporting the incident on Calle Ermita.
A fully medicalised ambulance was despatched, together with the fire service and Policía Local.
She was rushed to Hospital Virgen de las Nieves which has a specialised Neuro-Trauma Department.
The victim had parked her car on Calle Ermita, underneath the said block of flats. She was struck by the falling masonry just as she was opening the door to get into her car. It appears that she was accompanied by her mother at the time of the tragedy but who was no hit by the same debris.
The victim was due to get married in a couple of weeks’ time.
