Motril Port Security Exercise

During the morning of the 11th there will be a security exercise in Motril Port involving the Policía Nacional and the Spanish Navy.

MOT Infanta Cristina FrigateThe reason behind the exercise is to improve coordination between administrations and to check the effectiveness of the protocol.

The exercise is one of the scenarios contemplated in the naval exercise, MARSEC-22, in coordination with numerous public, regional and local administrations, as well as with private entities, all along the Spanish coastline.

The exercise will have two stages, with the first part counting on the participation of the Spanish Navy frigate, F34 Infanta Cristina which will simulate an operation to rescue 50 immigrants in a semi-submerged, open boat (patera), who will be ferried to Motril Port.

The second stage will be a mock terrorist attack against the port, which will obligate the port to activate the port protection plan, requiring the Policía Nacional to seal off the port.

The whole exercise will be coordinated and directed by the Naval Command based in Almería and the Policía Nacional HQ in Motril.

Other participants will be the Guardia Civil, Centro de Coordinación de Salvamento (CCS) de Almería, Capitanía Marítima de Motril, Cruz Roja, Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS), the Servicio de Emergencias (112) and the Motril Policía Local.
