A man died when his 4x4 plunged 50 metres to the bottom of a barranco in La Herradura in the early hours of this morning.

It was just after one in the morning that the emergency number, 112, received a call alerting them to the accident in the area of Cuesta del Marchante, in La Herradura. The caller reported that the driver was injured.

The Guardia Civil traffic police and the Almuñécar fire service were despatched to the scene; the assistance of the latter would be crucial given the Inaccessibility of the accident zone.

Medical sources have since announced that the man died from his injuries, although no details concerning the victim’s identity have been made known.
