Police from the Junta de Andalucía based in Granada carried out an inspection of fishing facilities in the Marina del Este and  confiscated a quantity of illegal netting.

The inspection took place on Wednesday the 9th of last month and found a total of 1,700 kilos of illegal-sized netting on four small fishing boats.

Fishing using these kind of nets:  trasmallos (trammel nets) and nasas (the type used in fish traps), are completely illegal in both inshore and offshore fishing. They were illegalised owing to the damage that they cause to the seabed, flora, etc.

In the last five years, the Unidad de Policía Adscrita has found five boats with a total of , 2,100 kilos of illegal fishing nets and 2,700 kilos of fish and shellfish caught using these illegal methods.

For this policing work the Junta has purchased four 5-metre-long RIBs worth a total of 100,000 euros for intercepting suspect fishing vessels out to sea.
