The Mayor of Motril, together with the First Councillor for the Carchuna/Calahonda ELA, stood on a hilltop looking at plans for a beauty-spot look-out point.
The Town Hall of Motril (Carchuna and Calohonda belong to the municipality of Motril) is set to spend 80,000 euros, renovating an existing vantage point behind Carchuna looking out to sea.
The money will come from the PFEA funds, which are for helping rural communities.
They will be building new walling, erecting a pergola to provide shade, and providing benches, as well as a small telescope (of the type you used to find on piers/arcades).
The view that the Town Hall and the First Councillor of the ELA want to offer is… the expanse of greenhouses and the two urban areas, as well as the sea beyond, of course. The look-out point already existed but had fallen into disrepair. It is part of a local walking route for tourism.
The First Councillor, Conchi Abarca, says when it is finished it will be “a beautiful place that we are going to bring back in all its spendor.”
Editorial comment: … a panoramic view of hectares of greenhouses which you can view through a small telescope? Seriously?

Now now Fred. You are talking long term.!! A day in politics is a lifetime to an ordinary person. So long term, is a bit of a variable expression. I must admit the Mediterranean , apart from the odd tanker. Can be as exciting as the seas of plastic. Unless you’re in a kayak surrounded by a swarm??, of whitebait.??
Surely better off spending €80K on trees and other environmental projects then in the longer term there might be a better view for locals and tourists
As a person newish to this wonderful part of the world. I do find some of the Spanish Towns decisions a tad odd. For instance. I have no idea why they would Ponce up the pavement area running the Guardia civil side. Into a racetrack for busses and taxis. With pedestrians trying to dash across the tracks plus taking away car parking for those shops that really need custom. Still what do I know.??
