The Ministry of Public Works has paid 119,917 euros to Roma Ingenieros for drawing up a new, access project for the Alpujarra.
It affects the A-348 between the spring-water, bottling plant and Lanjarón. This joins a previous contract for the section between the Puente de Tablate and the said plant, Aguas de Lanjarón.
This adjudication of work contracts has been completed so that the actual work can begin in 2022 and thus, “bring to an end a 15-year wait for safe road access for the Alpujarra,” said the bigwig from Fomento, Infraestructuras y Ordenación del Territorio, Marifrán Carazo.
In her opinion the Junta has done its homework by both having the projects drawn up as well as securing EU funds (11m euros) to finance the work.
Some of the tasks included will be to bring certain aspects of the road into line with modern regulations: bridge loads and crash barriers.
So, if all goes well, the section of the A-346 between the autovía junction and Lanjarón will get a complete overhaul with the elimination of a score of tight bends and the widening of the road surface. Furthermore, along the steepest part between the A-44 junction and the bottling plant there will be an additional slow lane added.
The A-348 between the autovía and Lanjarón handles 3,600 vehicles a day, nine percent of which corresponds to heavy vehicles.
