Órgiva Xmas Cancelled

The capital of the Alpujarra Granadina, Órgiva, has experience a sharp increase in contagion so Mayor Raúl Orellana decided to cancel further Xmas celebrations.

GRA ALP Orgiva Twin SpiresAccording to present figures Órgiva with its population of 5,784 inhabitants has had 77 cases in 14 day and 56 of those in the last seven days, giving it a contagion rate of 1,331.3.

The Mayor puts the increase in contagion down to a school classroom from before the schools broke up for Christmas. He also puts it down to more people self testing because they have wanted to visit family members.

With all this in mind he had to make the decision to cancel further Christmas period public celebrations until this coming Wednesday when the situation will be reevaluated. Whether the Three Kings Parade on the 5th will still go ahead remains in the balance.

He concluded by pointing out that despite the high contagion rate, it has not translated into increased hospitalisations, as was the case last year.
