ExpoAlpujarra 2021

Over 50 companies have been showing off their wares in the Alpujarreño town of Ugíjar, which is close to the border with the Alpujarra Almeriense.

GRA ALP Ugijar Fair expoalpujarraThis year is the 24th year that this very popular, tourism, handicraft and traditional-products fair has been in existence. It started Saturday but tomorrow is the last day, so you have today and Wednesday to have a good look around this beating heart of Las Alpujarras – and for once, it is correct to use the plural because it covers both the Granada and Almería parts.

At the inauguration the Mayor, Federico López Maldonado and the provincial representative, Ana Muñoz, extolled the importance of ExpoAlpujarra, pointing out that it was one of the most important fairs in the province of Granada.

ExpoAlpujarra is the place to be if you want to discover the cured hams, wines, beers, cold meats, cheeses, sweet products, pottery, wall carpets, wickerwork, honey and a whole lot more that the Alpujarras have to offer.

I recently spent two weeks in the upper, Alpujarra Granadina and ventured into the Almería side via Ugíjar. It’s a long ride to do in one day unless you take the A-7 to Adra and then head inland directly to Ugíjar.
