A Guardia Civil in Galicia came across a family car towing a large boat, far greater in size than the towing vehicle, on the AP-9 motorway; they were impressed.
Examining the paperwork of the towing vehicle, it reflected quite clearly that the maximum tow load permitted is up to 720 kilos; i.e., you can’t just slap the Titanic on a skateboard, hitch it to your wife’s Mini and set off along a motorway.
The police had the boat towed to a weighbridge where its weight was registered as 3,250 kilos – just a tad over what he could legally tow by 2.5 metric tonnes.
To legally tow such a load you would need a B+E driving licence and a suitable towing vehicle – he was in possession of neither.
Questioned where he had been intending to take ‘Noah’s Ark void of beasties,’ he replied, Huelva, down on the southern coast of Spain in our dear Andalucía, so this was no quick sprint to the nearest duck pond and back.
Obviously, the trailer and boat were impounded and the driver charged with being completely ridiculous and insanely optimistic… and towing a load without the required licence, as an afterthought.
And so endeth the tale of Trailer Tim and a Day at the Seaside…
