It’s not just boars, which make a mess of your bodywork as well as a tasty bacon sandwhich, but other animals such as deer, badgers and mountain goats.
During the lockdown wild animals noticed a lack of humans and became more adventurous so that when normal traffic loads on back roads returned, accidents of this kind increased notably.
During 2020 there were no fewer than 115 accidents involving a boar over who had the right of way…
Other wild animal in road accidents lagged far behind, such as mountain goats (14) the same number as those involving foxes. There were only two accidents involving deer and only two involving rabbits.
Now, it’s not the same colliding with a full-size, upset, wild boar, as an impact caused by a sad and bewildered rabbit, mostly because although your car, in the case of the former, is a write off, the boar shrugs and buggers off.
Many of these accidents in Almeria occur on the less transited roads through the Alpujarra Almeriense; i.e., the A-348, or the A-334 (which goes through Almanzora). Yet,surprisingly the majority actually occurred on the A-7 (54 accidents) despite the fencing running along the whole length of the autovía to keep wild animals off the lanes.
