Councillor Luis Aragón, who heads this department, explained how a works contract for this task has been awarded to Excavaciones y Trabajos Agrícolas Órgiva, which has all the necessary specialised equipment.
The task entails cutting back or eliminating vegetation on the Río Seco and Río Verde dry riverbeds and shredding it, where they pass through the urban areas of Almuñécar.
Also included in the work is making sure that the tracks along barrancos that feed into the rivers are fit for traffic, as they are used by farmers to access their plantations, as well as residents in cortijos. Not only does overgrown vegetation make transit more difficult, but it is also a fire hazard.
Editorial note: nothing was mentioned of Río Jate in La Herradura, which is strange, unless it has already been done.
