The officer commanding the Guardia Civil post in Huétor Tájar has been arrested, suspected of extorsion, amongst other charges.
The warrant officer, who has also been charged with the disclosure of confidential information and a failure to persue crimes, has since been released pending trial.
All these charges are in relation to allegedly helping a woman to blackmail a businessman. Her arrest followed that of the Guardia Civil, post chief.
The judicial branch of the Guardia Civil had been keeping an eye on the said senior NCO, who only had a short time to do in regular service before passing to the reserves or retirement, so if found guilty it will affect his retirement pension badly. To reach the rank of warrant officer indicates he has had many years of service.
Editorial note: Almuñécar has an teniente (first lieutenant) because it has a reasonably big population but somehwere the size of Huétor Tájar might only have a senior NCO (warrant officer).
