Talk: Kidnapped by Jihadists

There will be an interesting talk at Salobreña's El Anfiteatro Nilo Cruz today given by Pierluigi Maccali who was kidnapped and held for two years by Jihadists.

SAL Pierluigi Maccalli Kidnapped Italian MissionaryPierluigi Maccali, an Italian missionary, had been working in Niger, when the kidnapping occurred in 2018 and was not freed until October 2020.

The reason that he is giving the talk in Salobreña is that the Spanish missionary, Pepe Ferrer, who is from Salobreña dependency of La Caleta, organised prayers amongst the people of Salobreña for his liberation. In other words, it is to show gratitude towards the townsfolk.

The talk, where the missionary will recount his experience as a hostage, will begin at 21.00h tonight following the end of Mass (church service) at the Iglesia San Juan Bautista. The orator will speak in Italian but there will be a Spanish-language interpreter there to translate his story.

Pierluigi Maccalli was kidnapped on the Burkina Faso border of Niger during the night of the 17th of September, 2018 and kept captive until his release in Mali last October.

Without doubt, it will be a very interesting talk and a good chance to practice your Italian, as well as Spanish.
