A small yacht ran aground on the rocks at the eastern end of La Herradura Bay, beneath the road leading up to Punta de la Mona.

The MNE 0513 ended up on the said rocks in the early hours of this morning after the crew had tried to shelter from the Ponient wind and current within the bay. It appears that the anchors failed to hold.

Obviously, from first light smalls crowds had gathered to look down on the stricken yacht from the road above and watch Salvamento Marítimo patrol craft carry out a rescue operation.

However, upon closer inspection they realised that they would need a bigger boat to be able to refloat the yacht and take it into tow. It is, of course, a race against time before the wave action breaks the hull completely.

Also watching were the owners of the pleasure craft, who although foreigners are residents in the village.

The idea is to get it to the Marina del Este so that the damage can be inspected. First Councillor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, who was amongst those watching, stated that the Town Hall would lend all necessary assistance.
