Almuñécar Town Hall has awarded Anclamip S.L the contract to install tilt sensors (inclinometers) on the Cerro Gordo hillside on which Urb. Carmenes del Mar sits.

The contract, which is worth 48,380 euros, entails the placing of 12 of these geotechnical instruments within  and around the said urbanización.

“With these works on Cármenes del Mar what is going to happen is a monitoring of the hillside using two methods; topographically, which consists in placing a series of fix points, and secondly, a more profound one using the tilt sensors,” explained the Municipal Surveyor.

He went on to explain, “it consists of geotechnical drill holes down which a cable is suspended, which will measure any movement along its length.”

The tilt sensors will be placed in the locations where there has been landslips because the hillside on which the urbanización sits has broken into sections. This will show where it is moving, where it is going and at what speed, as well as the thickness of the section in movement.

Changing the subject, we move onto the new entrance lane which will give access from the N-340 via Los Altos. At a recent meeting between the Municipal Surveyor and the Junta de Andalucia, it was agreed that an environment-impact report is needed. The Junta has insisted that several local species of flora would have to be transplanted into an alternative location, as they would be “affected by the construction work.”

Editorial Comment:  This really does smack of the Town Hall stalling. They have had years – yes years – to do this but rather than coughing up the money to actually begin stabilisation work, they opted to “take measurements to see what they are dealing with.”
