There was a horrendous accident on Monday when a lorry smashed over the side of an A-45 bridge in Córdoba and burst into flames upon impact.

The accident occurred around 10.30h where the said autovía passes through the municipality of Benamejí. Over 20 people phoned into the 112 emergency number to report the accident.

The articulated lorry fell some 200 metres to the floor of the Río Genil valley below. The driver died instantly and his body was carbonised.

The burning wreckage started a larger fire which required the presence of Infoca units to tackle it, bringing the fire under control by 13.30h.
