The ferry route between Melilla and Motril was interrupted yesterday morning when it was discovered that 11 members of the crew tested positive for Covid.

The company that operates the ferry, Balearia, confirms that the rest of the crew had given a negative reading and that they had disinfected the whole of the ferry, so that the vessel could make the return trip to Motril around 17.30h on Thursday.

The said ferry does not only cover the Motril-Melilla route but had been operating between Valencia and Mallorca during June.

On this occasion the ferry had sailed from Melilla to Motril on the 29th and two members of crew had disembarked there before it set off again for Melilla. The two crew members gave a positive reading, which is why the ferry was detained in Melilla when it arrived and the whole crew tested, turning up 11 more infected members of the crew.
