The old steam-engine monument that has graced the Plaza Avenida de Andalucía in Motril since the 80s has been fully restored.
The machinery, which originally came out of the Fábrica Azucarera Nuestra Señora del Pilar, has understandably deteriorated over the decades, not only because of the weather but because of vandals.
Yet that is the past because with a lick of paint and a spot of elbow grease it now stands resplendent.
Mayor García Chamorro was chuffed and pointed out that along with large development projects, small projects like the restoration of this steam engine deserve just as much merit.
