Torrenueva Leads The Way

MOT TorrenuevaThe Mayor of Torrenueva Costa, Plácido Lara, explained that they had received a formal request for permission to set up this specialised parking area just 150 metres away from the beach on private land.

The Town Hall is all for it, helping with the bureaucracy so that the project can materialise, giving this newly independent, seaside town a stay-over area for this off-season tourist; an arrangement that should benefit the town, as well as the site owner and those that use it.

The first step is approval from the Environmental Department belonging to the Junta de Andalucía but the Mayor is confident that project will pass this first hurdle. In fact, he said that if all goes well, it could be up and ready by this summer.

Hi Martin, this is great news and I feel compelled to comment here given the recent excitement stirred by the Playa de Enmedio article.

For the record, I am a fan of RV travel (campervan travel in Europe and UK). I fully support and encourage this form of travel/recreational activity that dates back to early 1900s in the US and 1800s in Europe.

However, we must bear in mind that it needs to be done properly and legally, in accordance with all laws, rules and regulations pertaining to campervans. The primary issue is about providing proper campervan sites with appropriate facilities/utilities ie. water, electricity, and sewer connections as the most basic items.

The crux of this issue is about protecting public health (both for the general public and the campervan travellers), and protecting the hygiene and sanitary conditions and natural beauty of the environment that everyone shares and enjoys….and doing so by providing proper accommodations for campervans so that they have a safe, clean and welcoming place to park their vehicles and explore/enjoy all that the local area has to offer.

The Costa Tropical’s economy relies largely on tourism and we simply cannot afford to ignore the campervan tourism sector, and we must make accommodations for that particular mode of the travel, recreation, and tourism industry.

I commend the Torrenueva authorities for their vision and their efforts to provide a proper, legally compliant campervan site and hope that other municipalities will follow suit, so that we can welcome the campervan tourism sector to Costa Tropical by offering them fully equipped and legally compliant facilities for camping that are safe, clean, sanitary, and beautiful for travellers and locals alike…….all along Costa Tropical!

Harley: On a trip to Cuenca, Christmas 2018, I was please to see that the town has a specialised parking area for camper-van visitors, which offers facilities and makes a reasonable charge. It’s here on the Costa Tropical that these seasonal tourists are shunned; The Many paying the penalty for The Few who abuse.

Forward thinking, dont just ignore or try to prevent campers parking up overnight but ‘manage’ the situation and you will all benifit. Be sure to apply the rules for all nationalities and the town will prosper with a good mix of camper owners.
