The western entrance to Motril from the N-340 will be converted from a T-junction into a roundabout, at last.
It was around 83 when the T-junction came into being, as before that the N-340 didn’t carry straight on, but entered Motril past where today Al Campo stands, which was the old N-340.
In 1983 the began work to carry the N-340 straight on, connecting with the port road with a roundabout meeting up with the old N-340 where it emerged from the town centre at the next roundabout.
Anyway, the point is that at last they are going to do away with the bloody awful T-junction where many accidents have happened because of waiting traffic on the junction to cross over, misjudging the speed of the oncoming vehicles.
First of all the project has to submit to public scrutiny to see if anybody has any valid objections and then the contract will be put up to bidding.
The project, which has a budget of 480,000 euros, still has no commencement date fixed but hopefully will get done in the first six months of 2021.
The idea of placing a roundabout there goes back to 2004 but successive municipal administrations have seen their efforts come to nothing until now.
