First Weekend, Two Rescues

GRA Albergue de San FranciscoThe residents of Granada province have been keen to get out and about, especially to the Sierra Nevada, ending inevitably in mountain rescue missions.

The Guardia Civil mountain-rescue service, Sereim, was called out to rescue a woman who had injured her leg up in the snow of Sierra Nevada, near the mountain refuge Albergue de San Francisco, which lies within the municipal limits of Güéjar Sierra.

The woman had a leg injury which prevented her from standing so the team, upon reaching her, called up their rescue helicopter to transfer her to the Virgen de Las Nieves, traumatological hospital.

Another rescue team was called out yesterday afternoon to rescue a man who had suffered an injury due to a fall, this time on the side of the Sierra belonging to Huétor-Santillán.

The emergency number 112 received an alert at 13.10h from a Family member of the victim to say that, whilst they were out collecting mushrooms near the Cortijo del Chorrillo, the victim had fallen down a steep area of hillside.

A rescue team was despatched and brought the injured man, with a suspected leg fracture, to where an ambulance was waiting.
