A Hint at the Next Changes

AND Junta Health Minister Jesus AguirreThe Andalusian Minister of Public Health, Jesús Aguirre, has said that Christmas get-togethers would not include allegados (friends of the family).

This is hardly surprising as the term allegado not only had too vague a definition, but it would have been impossible for the police to control. So, Christmas in Andalucía will probably mean just family – not family and friends, amongst the ten people permitted under one roof.

Another change that is in the wind concerns the time that bars and restaurants, for example, have to close in the evening, because the regional PM, Juanma Morena, said that they were “considering extending them.”

Now, the thing is that the contagion figures have been dropping pretty impressively during the last week to ten days but… and this is a big ‘but,’ we’re just about to traverse a bank holiday weekend with lots of people doing pretty irresponsible things, which means that ten days after the bank holiday, figures will climb. So, it all depends on how many people make their way down to the coast, bringing their family pet, the lesser-spotted coronavirus.

The Junta would have preferred that the traditional Christmas feasts would only have a singular family unit; i.e., those who live there, but during the national meeting with other regional governments and the Central Government it was decided to permit two family units; i.e., the host family (living under one roof) and another family unit (the grandparents, for example).

Finally, the Junta announced that it is hoped that the vaccine will begin its distribution in Andalucía towards the end of next month.

Colin: We will know on the 10th if the Junta has decided to include “close family friends.”

Does this mean that those of us who are here this year without our children and grandchildren will not be allowed to get together with friends who are in a similar situation ?
