When you’re doing 107kph faster than the 100kph speed limit, you’re bound to attract the attention of the Guardia Civil helicopter equipped with speed cams.
This was the case of a 44-year-old driver who was hammering it along the A-7 where it passes through the municipality of Motril (kilometre point 331).
This spy-in-the-sky, DGT chopper, known as Pegasus, uses Málaga as its base. The pilot is accompanied by a traffic-department officer sitting gleefully over his speeding-infraction equipment .
On that particular flight on the 19th the DGT operator spotted the BMW X4 throbbing along at 207kph in a section of the autovía limited to 100kph. The information was transmitted to Grupo de Investigación y Análisis de Tráfico (GIAT) for the identification of the car owner, which in this case turned out to be a company car.
The driver faces a prison sentence (suspended) of three to six month and the loss of his or her driving licence from one to four years… oh and probably a good sacking, as well.
