Car Insurance Scam Bust

GRA Urb La Joya, PeligrosFive women and three men, aged between 37 and 59, have been arrested over allegations of car insurance fraud.

The accused reported an accident involving two cars within an urbanización in Peligros on the 6th of April, 2019. As a consequence of the accident, eight people (the suspects) were injured to varying degrees and the cars badly damaged.

The insurance companies, facing multiple claims, considered that there were inconsistencies within the claims and asked the Guardia Civil to investigate.

Consequently, the Grupo de Investigación del Subsector de Tráfico belonging to the Guardia Civil set about determining whether the incident was truly a road accident or whether it was a set up.

What they turned up was glaring evidence that it was indeed a set up because the eight injured people had reported to the medical centre to get a medical certificate to verify their injuries, before the time of the accident.

The accident occurred at 03.45h, according to the report belonging to the Policía Local de Peligros, whereas one of those involved reported in at the hospital at 03.37h… three minutes before the accident took place.

Lastly, one of the car owners had put pieces of his car up for sale on a well known social-media platform several days before the day of the accident.
