At a time when chiringuitos along Spain’s beaches are considering shutting down for the winter, Nerja is considering a new chiringuito on Playa de Calahonda.
For those of you who don’t know Nerja very well, that is the one next to the Balcón de Europa, on the Maro side. For those of you who do know Nerja well, this one will replace the old Papagayo that was closed down due to complaints from neighbours.
In 2017 the Town Hall acquired the plot on which it stood for 1m euros and demolished the building on it the following year because people were complaining that squatters were living there.
Now, the Town Hall is drawing up a viability study for a new hostelry premises there, which will be leased out for a 25-year-period. It would cost the town 353,702 euros to build it but that outlay would be covered by the tenth year of the leasehold.
The Urban Development Department put the project up for public scrutiny for the stipulated period of time, which drew no objections, claims the councillor that that department, Nieves Atencia.
