The new museum in La Herradura, situated in the fortress, will be inaugurated on the 19th of March, during the village fiestas of San José.

The project to open what will be La Herradura’s first museum had been held up by the State of Alarm but even so the converted fortress will open its doors in time for the village fiestas, explained the Councillor for Tourism, Daniel Barbero.

But if you think that they are hanging up the last paintings and dusting off vases with bated breath then you would be mistaken because the Town Hall is yet to award the contract for the conversion to the winning bidder. The budget is 140,000 euros.

The village has a lot of history, including the fateful night when most of a fleet went down in the bay in the 1500s, when several thousand souls lost their lives.
