This weekend, probably for the last time this summer, beaches had to be closed owing to having reached their maximum capacity under present restrictions.
Again it was the popular beaches of Calabajiio, Cabria and Curumbico in Taramay, Almuñécar. Meanwhile on the opposite side of the municipality, high waves prevented bathers swimming on Playa Cantarriján in La Herradura.
A westerly (Poniente) gale blew most of Friday and Saturday, causing red flags to fly, not only along the Costa Tropical, but also along the Costa del Sol, too.
In fact, the only beaches where the red flag was not flying in Almuñécar and La Herradura, was the Playa Marina del Este (green flag), given that it was sheltered by the Punta de la Mona from the wind and Playa Velilla and El Tesorillo (yellow flag) for the same reason.
Because of the wind, the smaller beaches such as those mentioned above, restricted the usable area on them, hence their reaching completion early in the day.
