SAL Hotel SalobreñaHotel Salobreña Suites is the venue for the national championships for chess: Sub-8 to Sub-18.

The competition started last month but does not conclude until the 22nd of August, so be prepared to have to wade through adolescents that know more about chess pieces than relating with people of their own age, bless their cotton socks.

,The Councillor Sports at Salobreña Town Hall, Manuel Guirado, has thanked the Federación Española de Ajedrez for their confidence in Salobreña by choosing this municipality, yet again, to hold this event that has competitors coming from all over the country. He also expressed his gratitude to the hotel on behalf of the Town Hall for putting its installations at the disposition of the event organisers.

The event, which started with the Sub-8 chess games and will conclude with the Sub-18s, has some 60 chess players, which is a high number given the present circumstances; i.e., the pandemic. When you include the adult family members that have accompanied them then the figure is around 300 people.
