At the moment the forest-firefighting entity, Infoca, is tackling a hill fire in the Sierra de Lújar area, within the municipality of Vélez-Benaudalla.
Two fire trucks, 22 firefighters and three aircraft (two water-bomber planes and one heavy-lift helicopter) have been deployed to extinguish the fire. Units from the Motril fire service have also joined them.
The alarm was raised about 15.00h.
The KA-4 (Kamov) Helicopter, which flew in from Huelma in support, is one of the main units thanks to its carrying capacity.
As well as operating with an underslung canvas bag (Bambi) with a capacity of 4,500 litres, they can also be adapted to have an internal water tank, which limits the available space for its other duties such as ferrying firefighters and evacuating the injured, however.
The T4 Sky Tractor is a fixed-wing, single-engine water bomber and is based at the Resinera FFB.
We will post updates as they become available.
