Last Lock Down Extension Approved

SPN Pedro Sanchez InvestitureThe Lower House of Parliament approved probably the last extension to the Lock Down yesterday.

Although the Government didn’t have to struggle for backing votes, it was a heated debate nevertheless.

Therefore, the Lock Down will now conclude on the 21st of June, but does this mean that all restrictions will disappear with it?

The answer is no; the Government is working on a new Royal Decree to set out the terms of the New Normality when it arrives. This Royal Decree will probably be approved on the 9th of June

The PM, Pedro Sánchez, obtained  177 votes in favour, 155 against and 18 abstentions. The votes against were mainly the PP and the far-right VOX party, whereas Ciudadanos, which had previously marched lockstep with these two parties, changed direction to support the Government.

Although the extension is approved, the Board of Ministers will probably meet tomorrow to work out the  procedure for the next fortnight. One of the novelties of this Lock-Down prolongation is that the 17 regional governments will decided how Phase Three will evolve, rather than the Central Government.
