Almuñécar Town Hall has been sentenced to coughing up over two-million euros for a real-estate deal from the time of the Benavides’ mayoralty.
It was on the 26th of March, 2006, that the Town Hall signed a deal with Granada Sol S.L.U. Actually, the deal was with a UTE, which is a temporary union of companies; in this case between Inmobiliaria de La Vega and SIM Granamant (Granada Sol S.L.U.).
The deal was for the running of Las Tejas football ground in La Herradura. The company had to pay 570.96 euros per sq/m of the grounds, totalling 2,233,968 euros. Fourteen years further down the line, the law courts declared the deal illegal so the municipal coffers have to return the money.
The First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruíz Joya, explained that to be able to repay this sum the Town Hall will be paying 200,000 euros a month, starting August this year and ending May 2021, as they do not have two-million available in order to pay in one lump sum.
