There was a bit of a scuffle on Wednesday night in Motril’s municipal sports centre, which is being used as a temporary shelter for the homeless.
Before the dust settled, five people had been arrested, amongst them a social worker and three policemen were slightly injured.
According to the Policía Nacional, they received a call to say that a homeless man had threatened a security guard with a sharp implement so they immediately went round to the sports hall.
Once there they attempted to detain the man but he resisted arrest, at which point a second homeless person jumped on the police officers. Precisely at this moment a social worker also tried to prevent the police taking the two men away and was arrested for his efforts as well.
But the confrontation didn’t end there and didn’t conclude until three officers had slight injuries and a total of five people were taken away.
