A 56-year-old, Colombian man, resident of a village in the south of the province, was arrested for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old at the end of last month.

The suspect is the father of the girl’s friend, in whose house she was staying whilst her mother was out working. In the victim’s statement before the police she described how he had taken her to a little transited area of the countryside near the house to carry out the attack.

Although the victim had only recently confessed to her mother what had happened to her , the reported aggression took place at the end of January.

The suspect, who appeared before a magistrate on the Costa Tropical, has a criminal record and has recently been released from prison after serving time for drug offences.

Editorial comment: it is very difficult to read this article – or write it – without already condemning the man; he’s an ex-con, etc, etc. But, that is precisely what we can’t do, hence the “allegedly & reportedly.”
