Almuñécar is accelerating the pace of the demolition work on the municipal market, which has a job duration of just six weeks.
To achieve this, they have brought in a 60-tonne crane belonging to the company hired for the task, Contenedores Alhambra.
“All is going ahead with the proper safety measures in place for this kind of work,” said the Councillor for Urban Development, Javier García, adding that the demolition work has the stamp of approval from the Subdelegación del Gobierno in Granada (provincial office representing the Central Government).
The crane is armed with a jaw at the end of its 24-metre, articulated arm, capable of cutting the reinforcing metal bars (rebars) in the pillars and roof beams with rapid ease.
The Town Hall also assured that the whole area is being disinfected regularly and the temperature of the workmen taken twice a day.
Editorial comment: by the time that people are allowed out to protest, there will only be a crater where the building once stood, which, undoubtedly, has a lot to do with the haste employed.
