The body of a delivery-van driver was found in his parked vehicle on an Almuñécar street yesterday morning.
The van had been parked on Calle Hurtado de Mendoza, near the fisherman’s statue, since the previous day with the deceased man in the driver’s seat, apparently with nobody having noticed.
It was another delivery driver who discovered the dead body at 11.00h yesterday morning. The victim had his head resting against side window and the other driver had approached to see if he would be moving off. He could not get any response from the other driver, which was when he realised that something was very wrong.
The dead driver was a 33-year-old Moroccan, according to police sources, who lived in the centre of Granada. The Guardia Civil, who are investigating the incident, said that the dead man showed no signs of having suffered any violence.
The van was parked very close to the Plaza de Madrid where a Día de Andalucía musical event (the Mayor’s speech and a brass band) was to take place at 13.00h that same day, but as the coroner had not given permission for the body to be moved, the Mayor opted to cancel this and other planned, celebratory events for the day, “out of respect for the deceased.”
