The First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya gave a press call concerning the upcoming II Regata ICON Marina this month.

This boating event will take place on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of March hosted by the Marina del Este.

Sr. Ruiz Joya pointed out that there couldn’t have been a better date for it as if fall just before the village fiestas of San Jose. The Councillor for Tourism, Daniel Barbero, who was also present, said that the marina was a jewel in the crown the municipality.

The man behind the organisation of the event, Daniel Cuevas Stollery explained that 30 craft would be participating all within the category of 9-to-18 metres in length (ORC).

As was the case last year, the first day will see two different starting points: from Malaga Port at 11.00h and from Motril Port at 12.00h, both heading for the Marina del Este.

The following day, Sunday, will see the regatta will see taking place either in La Herradura Bay or in front of San Cristóbal, depending on the wind direction.

“The leg between Malaga and the Marina is 33 nautical miles in length whilst the Motril one is around 10 nautical miles, hence the staggered starting time, providing a continous stream of yachts in full view of people on the beaches of San Cristóbal and La Herradura Bay,” explained the event organiser.

The ORC System is an International Handicap one, taking the measurements of many aspects of the craft, including sail, hull and stability.
