Almuñécar has installed a new, rubbish-hopper system in some areas of the municipality, explained the Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón.
Now organic waste goes in the grey hoppers, which in most cases have been placed next to the hoppers for plastic (yellow) paper (blue) and glass (green). We should point out that all the new hoppers are grey – the colour coding consists of a coloured band around them.
Phase one of the installation, which will done in area stages, is between Góndolas and Velilla, and Taramay & Cabria. They have also been placed along the N-340 where it passes through both Almuñécar and La Herradura.
The grey hoppers, which are larger than the old ones and number between 80 and 90, were made be a Galician company, Formato Verde. Furthermore, the lids of these new hoppers have a good seal on them when you close them which should, hopefully, cut down on the smell.
According to the municipal bylaws, you should only use them between 20.00h and 23.00h, which, of course, only the most optimistic will expect to be obeyed.
