The National Institute for Statistics (INE) has provided the population figures for Almuñécar on the 1st of January, 2020, putting it at 26,514 inhabitants.
The Provincial Delegate for the INE, pointed out that there has been a small increase in number; just over a hundred, making it the third-most-populated town in the province.
According to the municipal statistics office, 13,390 are women and 13,124 are men. Although there were one or two who declared themselves, “not quite sure.”
So how many of the population are foreigners? Well, almost 7,000 comprising of 90 different nationalities, with the Germans and Brits being the most numerous. The Scandinavians come next (Norwegians, Swedes, Finns and – although not technically Scandinavians – Danes) with around a thousand.
The French and Belgians can muster up a similar amount as the Nordics. By the way, if you are a French speaker, you will find this information in your own language in the French Section of this magazine.
After that, in descending order, it’s the Rumanians, Italians and Netherlanders. One person claimed that he was from a different planet and he had reported as lost his anal probe to the municipal police… Just joking!
So what about those from outside the European Union; a category soon to include the British: in descending order they are from Morocco, Argentina, The USA, Senegal, Russia and China.
