Nearly Got Away

MOT Guardia Civil Road CheckDuring the first week of this month, the Guardia Civil flagged down a car but instead of stopping, it sped off causing the officers to jump aside.

The incident took place at a police, road check on the N-323 near the Pantano de Rules (where the bridge junction is). The driver headed towards the coast, managing to evade a police pursuit.

However, a bar-restaurant further down the road phoned in half an hour later to say that somebody had just abandoned 14 suspicious packages, probably containing drugs, on the premises.

The Guardia Civil went straight there and took charge of the packages, which contained hashish, and asked to examine the restaurant’s CCTV recordings of the parking area. They discovered that the person – or better said, his car –  who had abandoned the drugs was the same person who had jumped the checkpoint.

The Salobreña Guardia Civil post took charge of the case and traced the vehicle owner, a 43-year-old man from Huétor Vega, thanks to the video footage. He was later arrested and charged with drug-running and failing to stop at a road-control point.
