A 37-year-old Almuñécar man was arrested this week for allegedly mugging somebody in a lift back in August.
The incident took place on the 21st of August. The suspect reportedly hid behind the stairs in a block of flats, jumping out on the victim as he waited to use the lift. Threatening the victim with a pistol, he obtained the person’s wallet and mobile phone.
The Guardia Civil opened an investigation into the crime by tracking the mobile phone via its IMEI number as the thief had decided to use the phone after changing the SIM card.
The police already had an idea about who might be behind the robbery thanks to the description given by the victim.
Furthermore the same man was arrested with an accomplice in September for another mugging involving a bag-snatching incident in La Herradura, getting away with 1,500 euros – the victim was a bar/restaurant owner.
