For the first time the Junta de Andalucía and formally expressed support for a rain link between Granada and Motril Port.
The Regional Prime Minister Juanma Morena (PP) said that they would put into motion this long-held demand for such a rail link, “no matter who is running the Central Government.” He was referring, of course, to the upcoming General Elections that will be held on the 10th of this month.
The regional MP for Public Works, Marifrán Carazo, made this known during a recent visitto the area. She announced, “The Port, if we wish it to grow, must count on a rail connection to serve a logistic capacity, adding, “when the business sector backs for the Granadinian port, so shall the this administration, as it is the only port in Spain that does not have one.”
The Chairman for the Port Authorities (PP), josé García Fuentes, said that the viability study being carried out by the University of Granada will show that it is economically and technological viable, needing only the political will to bring it about.
Many consider, however, with the proximity of the elections that this statement has little substance as a right-wing win in the coming elections is not likely making it a safe electoral pledge for the Junta to make.
