Impetuously Winging it

GRA Pedro Antonio de AlarcónA bar owner in Granada was caught by work inspectors with not one of his staff legally employed; i.e, registered with Seguridad Social etc. The inspectors found six waiters and two cooks without one legal contract between them.

Bar owners sometimes employ somebody extra, keeping a low profile in this manner whilst others give workers a part-time contract and have them working all day, but to fill your bar with workers and have them all working black, whilst hoping not to get caught is an act of criminal optimism.

Now, you can expect somebody to try something on in an obscure bar in a forgotten village but on Calle Pedro Antonio de Alarcón in the very heart of hostelry, surprised even the inspectors.

Although the discovery was made in June 2017, the case is being tried now and should the Public Prosecutor get his way, the bar owner is looking at three years in prison and hefty fine (10 euros a day over eight months – around 2,500 euros)

Oh, and to boot, the bar wasn’t registered…
