A British man and three Poles were arrested aboard their yacht when it was found to have three tonnes of hashish on board. The arrest was part of a Frontex operation entitled Indalo.
The yacht had been seen next to a zodiac loaded with packages some 15 nautical miles from the Spanish coast in the Mar de Alborán.
The Frontex HQ alerted the Guardia Civil HQ in Almería, who gave orders for the Guardia Civil vessel, Rio Nacimiento to intercept it, which took place 14 nautical miles out, heading for Almería
The four occupants, 58-year-old Brit J.C.C. and three Polish citizens aged 55, 48 and 47, were arrested as soon as an illegal cargo was discovered during a preliminary search.
Once in port, the suspects were handed over to the Almería G.C.H.Q and the vessel searched from top to bottom, uncovering 93 packages with a total weight of 3,100 kilos of hashish.
